If anything can get the volatile former couple together, it's their mutual love for fish.

Production starts today (Monday 12 July) on the 2010 Doctor Who BBC One Christmas Special in which the thrilling adventures of the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) and newlyweds Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) will continue in a fun-filled and heartfelt festive story.

In the grand tradition of Doctor Who Christmas specials, this year the show has once again attracted stellar guest stars as veteran actor Michael Gambon (Harry Potter, The Singing Detective) and opera diva Katherine Jenkins, in her first acting role, join the Time Lord for what might be his most Christmassy adventure yet!

Arriving on set for her first day of filming, Katherine Jenkins said: "I'm over the moon to be involved in the Doctor Who Christmas Special – I can't quite believe it as it's a part of the family tradition at the Jenkins household. I heard the news that I got the role on my 30th birthday and it was the best birthday present ever!"

About the series, lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat, commented: "Oh, we're going for broke with this one. It's all your favourite Christmas movies at once, in an hour, with monsters and the Doctor and a honeymoon and – oh, you'll see. I've honestly never been so excited about writing anything. I was laughing madly as I typed along to Christmas songs in April. My neighbours loved it so much they all moved away and set up a website demanding my execution. But I'm fairly sure they did it ironically."

The Christmas special follows on from Matt Smith's first series as The Doctor, which attracted huge critical acclaim for Smith, his companion, Gillan, and lead writer Moffat, from press and legions of fans alike.

Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning, said: "Matt Smith and Karen Gillan captivated audiences in their debut series and Doctor Who's clever twist on the much loved A Christmas Carol will thrill BBC One viewers this year with special guest stars Sir Michael Gambon and singing sensation Katherine Jenkins joining Amy and the Doctor for an unforgettable present!"

The series was co-commissioned by Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning for BBC One, and Jay Hunt, Controller of BBC One. Steven Moffat is lead writer and executive producer with Piers Wenger and Beth Willis also executive producing.

Filming on the Christmas special will continue until August 2010.

Can you feel the excitement? In a mere four days, Inception will hit theaters, melt your face and take its rightful place as the biggest non-animated film of the summer. At least until Salt comes out next week and blows Inception out of the water. Wait, what? Ahead, Movieline dissects why Angelina Jolie’s summer action spectacle is poised to win the box office war with Christopher Nolan’s pedigreed mind-bender.



· Angelina Jolie
While Leonardo DiCaprio is forced to share the Inception marketing campaign with a cadre of character actors — he didn’t even get Russell Hammond status in the movie poster! — Angelina Jolie is the marketing campaign for Salt. And you know why? She’s the biggest actress in the world and probably behind only Will Smith and Johnny Depp on the worldwide-fame scale. People love Jolie; they like Leonardo DiCaprio. Don’t believe me? DiCaprio only has one $40-plus million opener on his resume (Shutter Island), Jolie has three.

· The release date
After Salt gets released on July 23, the summer might as well be over from a four-quadrant standpoint. To wit: The remaining releases are niche films with specific target audiences like Eat, Pray, Love, The Other Guys and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. It just feels like Salt could be the one film that not only has legs, but will appeal to a wide variety of demographics. Inception probably will too — if only it didn’t slam into Salt seven days after its release.

· Running time
As Salt Fan Club president Jeffrey Wells revealed, Salt runs 95 minutes without credits; Inception runs for 148 minutes. Based on simple time telling skills, that means theaters will be able to squeeze more showings of Salt into a single day than Nolan’s epic. And that means a greater potential for dollars that even Inception’s IMAX screens won’t make up for.

· Accessibility
Without even seeing Salt, you can describe it to your friends in three words: Jolie as Bourne. Try using three words for Inception: Leo’s dream heist? Matrix with dreams? Bond as Matrix? Leo Ocean’s Matrix? Critics love it? Um, yeah. Inception might be better than Salt, but it certainly isn’t as straightforward.

· Expectations
The killer: With a sprawling cast, the “From the director of The Dark Knight” tag and maximum ubiquity, people are just plain expecting Inception to be the greatest movie of all-time (something critics are stoking with the comparisons to Stanley Kubrick). If/when Inception predictably falls short of all this hype, the backlash will begin fast and hard. Meanwhile, no one is expecting Salt to be anything other than a good-time action film with a major star doing crazy stunts. Advantage: Angelina.

Mel Gibson, under investigation for domestic violence, admits to hitting Oksana Grigorieva and TWICE threatens to kill her in an explosive new audio tape obtained and released exclusively by RadarOnline.com.

The enraged actor tells the mother of his eight-month old daughter Lucia “you deserved it” after she says that he hit her and broke her teeth.

Mel’s stunning admission could be a powerful piece of evidence against him in the criminal investigation that is headed for the district attorney’s office and right now being conducted by the L.A. County Sherriff’s Department.

The new tape features a ranting, out-of-control, Mel who screams and is so enraged at times that all he can do is pant heavily, seemingly incapable of speaking. The tape is not only big trouble for Mel in the domestic violence investigation but he could face additional criminal charges based on two death threats heard clearly on this new audio.

As Mel and Oksana argue, the Braveheart star becomes increasingly incensed, and tells her: “You need a f*cking bat in the side of the head. Alright, how about that?”

Later on the tape, Mel alludes to killing and burying her. As the former couple’s argument grows worse and worse Oksana tells Mel: “You’re gonna answer one day, boy, you’re gonna answer.”

Infuriated, Mel asks if she is threatening him, and Oksana says she is not. “I’m not the one to threaten,” the Russian-born beauty says.

And that’s when Mel makes what certainly can be reasonably interpreted as another death threat, telling Oksana: “Threaten ya? I’ll put you in a f *ckin rose garden you c*nt! You understand that? Because I’m capable of it. You understand that?”



Oksana filed a complaint with law enforcement on July 5 triggering a domestic violence investigation of Mel. RadarOnline.com learned that Oksana said she taped Mel because he made death threats against her and she feared for her life. At one point, on another section of tape not played here, Mel threatens to burn down her house.

The new tape obtained exclusively by RadarOnline.com has Mel admitting that he punched Oksana, confirming our earlier report that she has told friends he knocked out her front teeth.

Here is the key piece of dialogue:

Oksana: What kind of a man is that? Hitting a woman when she’s holding a child in her hands? Breaking her teeth twice in the face! What kind of man is that?

Mel: Oh, you’re all angry now! You know what, you f* cking deserved it!

As RadarOnline.com reported Oksana filed a restraining order under seal against Mel last month. In May they went through two days of arbitration to work out the terms of their separation. But Mel became infuriated when she would not let him see their daughter on Father’s day.

RadarOnline.com was first to report that he has also filed orders under seal that restrain Oksana.

Mel’s lawyers are now claiming that Oksana tried to extort him for more money in their settlement.

On this tape, Mel says he will no longer pay money toward Oksana’s music career and she answers: “I don’t give a damn if you don’t spend another penny on me.

“I don’t care I am just fearing for the life of my daughter.”

Mel accuses her of leaving him when he stopped spending money but Oksana answers: “Because I am saving my life and I’m saving my daughter’s life! I don’t give a damn about my music and I don’t give a damn about you spending another penny! I’m saving her life! You almost killed us, did you forget?”

Long before Lindsay Lohan was sentenced to 90 days in jail for violating her probation, her father, Michael Lohan, has had the habit of speaking out about his famous daughter’s life choices. So now that she’s heading to the slammer come July 20, of course Michael had a few things to say about the situation, talking to OK! about Lilo’s lawyer quitting and that controversial manicure.

“I’m writing her right now,” Michael told OK! at STK restaurant in NYC when we asked about his opinion on Shawn Chapman Holley, Lindsay’s lawyer, quitting yesterday. He admits he’s still in the dark a little on the details.

“I don’t know the specifics, but I would imagine that Lindsay got a little mouthy with her and I don’t think that Shawn Holley or Lindsay expected her to go to jail,” Michael explained to OK!. “And when Lindsay found that out she must have said something to Shawn that really ticked her off.”

As for Lindsay decorating her middle finger with the colorful words “f–k you” atop her manicure for her court appearance — a paint job she swears was just a coincidence — Michael is dismayed at his daughter’s behavior.

“It’s a sick thing to do,” he told OK!. “I raised my daughter never to do that. I just I don’t know. I don’t know what to say.”

Michael Lohan, rendered speechless? A rare moment, indeed.
